There are numerous types of mental disorders, each with its own set of symptoms, causes, and treatment approaches
Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety disorders involve excessive worry, fear, or nervousness that interferes with daily life
Mood Disorders: Mood disorders affect a person's emotional state and can cause significant disruptions in mood regulation
Psychotic Disorders: Psychotic disorders involve disturbances in thinking, perception, and behaviour. The most well-known psychotic disorder is schizophrenia, but others include schizoaffective disorder and delusional disorder
Eating Disorders: Eating disorders are characterized by abnormal eating habits and attitudes toward food, weight, and body image
Personality Disorders: Personality disorders involve enduring patterns of behaviour, cognition, and inner experience that deviate from cultural expectations and cause distress or impairment
Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders: These disorders involve obsessions (intrusive thoughts) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors performed to reduce anxiety or distress)
Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders: These disorders are triggered by exposure to traumatic or stressful events
Neurodevelopmental Disorders: These disorders typically manifest early in development and involve impairments in brain function and development
Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders: These disorders involve the misuse of substances such as alcohol, drugs, or medications, leading to significant impairment or distress
Sleep-Wake Disorders: Sleep disorders involve disturbances in sleep patterns that result in significant distress or impairment in daytime functioning
